The basic premise of the film: Wily E. Coyote sues the ACME corporation for defective products, is such a brilliant one that it manages to carry the film an awful long way. The gag rate is kept remarkably high and with a very good hit rate. The Looney Tunes back catalogue is effectively mined for characters, plots, lore and jokes.

But ultimately, like most of these endeavours, the need to scrunch everything into the shape of a safe, Hollywood family movie blunts the anarchic energy of it's inspiration. It's a good, enjoyable, Hollywood movie but it doesn't have the same amount of unpredictable verve as the cartoons it's adapting. Even when it's really trying to.

One thing to note is that the way the ACME corporation views it's customers, particularly it's 'high usage users', is tonally spot on. It's a subtle thing but the way the employees of ACME talk about their customers is eerily accurate of the way modern videogame companies talk about their customers, particularly in the free-to-play market. It'd be way too much of a stretch to call this a satire but even so, for such an old and storied firm, the depiction of modern ACME was spot on.

Nothing spectacular, but a lot of fun nonetheless. If you want something that get's a little closer to the spirit of classic short cartoons then the recent-ish Tom & Jerry and The Day the World Blew Up are better shouts.

A cartoon coyote, wearing rocket boots is just about to nearly catch a cartoon roadrunner.
